The basic idea and story of xcom enemy unknown is, you are the commander of an elite paramilitary organization or xcom for short and are humanity's hope and last line of defense against a new alien invasion and threat.

Xcom is a turned based strategy game at heart with insane difficulty levels if you are up for the challenge.
When you first start xcom you are given a mission to go and investigate a missing team of troops and this serves as the tutorial mission to get you used to basic game play. when you land the game teaches you the basics of moving around the map , the types of cover which to use and how to use guns and strategy's to out flank the enemy and after a creepy battle with some aliens only one of your squad makes it back to base.

This is when you are thrust in to the world of xcom and things are now in your hands and its a big task ahead of you. The campaign of xcom sees you going on missions to face alien threats, managing your xcom base, managing budgets and pleasing your members of different country's.
Base management sees you building a base to house all your power needs , scientists , barracks and equipment building, this is done in a view of a ant nest style which adds to the scale of the base and presents your first challenge where to place stuff, do you sacrifice space and build a generator next to steam vents or place two labs side by side which will grant you a bonus. there are always choices to be made on how you run things, which piece of equipment will you upgrade , how much coverage will you place over different country's to protect and how many aircraft will you send to fight ufo's.

Missions involve you responding to alerts around the globe and can involve stopping abductions, protecting VIPs, investigating crash sites and disarming bombs, you also get missions from your members asking for help but if you ignore the other country's you risk rising the panic levels and soon they will leave you on your own. do you help one to get more money or go for scientists more hard choices. Next comes the actual mission where xcom shines you land at the sites and are given a small area before the fog of war sets in and the tension rises as you must find the enemy some where on the map and there numbers are unkown proceed to quickly and its instantly game over and when you have a team of veteran soldiers you have grown to love and made to be tough keeping them alive is a must.

Mistaking a car for cover when it explodes will make you think twice, advance to quickly in to a enemy and they will be gun downed. when you find the enemy you are given a percentage on if your shot will count miss and its the aliens turn to shot back and could cost you a experienced player. soldiers can panic when out gunned a end up shooting randomly costing you your move , its a constant battle of who has the smartest wits about them in battle and strategy plays a big part.
The sound of xcom is thrilling and scary you hear the aliens moving about but don't know where they are and guns sound big and bad like a b movie

final thoughts- i could go on all day about this game there is so much to see and do , you can lose many hours of your life in this deep game and those looking for a challenging experience go for iron man mode its fills you will suspense and tension a must buy
