It's not really a con, every sequel I think comes with the assumption, if not the expectation that you have played previous instalments, but when the previous one wasn't released on your platform of choice, it can be an issue without a mass effect 2 style "previously on" kind of thing. And although there was tension built up especially in the town with the Executioner geezer running about, I didn't feel genuinely petrified as I did playing through Dead Space 1 for example.
