Call of Duty Black Ops is the official UK Christmas No1 with sales of 3 million copies since it launched back in early November, It’s one of only three titles to top the £100m mark, The other two games being Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Wii Fit.
The top ten combined have collectively sold a total of more than 10m units and generated more than £345m in sales revenue. Call of Duty Black Ops has resided in the No1 spot almost continuously since it release, with only a brief stay in the number 2 spot during GT5′s launch week.
Michael Rawlinson, Director General of UKIE, said, “With over 11 million video games sold in the last four weeks in the UK, generating over £290m, they are clearly the gift of choice this Christmas, showing once again that the interactive entertainment industry is the UK’s leading creative industry. The Christmas chart also demonstrates the variety of choice on offer for consumers; there really is something for everyone.”
With 1 in 3 people considering themselves gamers, these figures demonstrate that video games and interactive entertainment are a part of everyone’s everyday lives.
