Sony has announced that U.S. PlayStation 3 hardware sales have seen a significant increase in comparison to last year’s sales.
Speaking following the release of May’s NPD report, Sony’s Director of Corporate Communications showed his delight at the figures, “We are pleased to see that according to the May NPD report, PlayStation 3 hardware sales increased 14% year-over-year.”
According NPD data, Sony’s PlayStation 3 sold 154,500 units lat May, whereas this year’s figure for May shows 176,130 units having been sold.
Seybold also mentions that this is the fourth time in a row that Sony has seen double digit growth.
Seems the recent PlayStation outage didn’t affect sales as much as some thought it would, although sales are still lagging behind Xbox 360 somewhat as Microsoft’s console saw 270,000 units sold.
