EA Sports and Manchester City have signed an deal which will see exclusive content for the club come to the FIFA series.
The deal, which was announced this morning, will see Man City content distributed through the Club and EA’s digital channels. It also means that Man City fans will see their club get preferential treatment within the game, with the entire squad getting 360 degree 3D head scan shots and the ability to download an “exclusive and unique free club specific pack design,” as well as providing dedicated gaming areas around the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
“We are delighted to be entering into a dynamic new partnership with Manchester City. Through this agreement, EA Sports will invest in the creation of bespoke content and experiences that bring Manchester City fans across the globe closer to the team they love,” said EA Sports Nick Harford.
Ian Cafferky, chief brand and commercial officer for Man City also added: “EA Sports’ reputation is unparalleled, both within the video game industry and around the world. The fact that a company of EA Sports’ calibre has joined our stable of valued partners shows a clear indication of the club’s growth and appeal to a global audience.
“Many of our supporters, not to mention first team players are huge fans of FIFA. The deal with EA Sports was therefore a natural fit and the beginning of what I know will be an exciting partnership.”
This seems a real shame for other football fans like myself, as a Rangers fans I’d love to see player likenesses for my team, as well as the inclusion of Ibrox stadium (although it’s not clear if Man City’s stadium will be included as part of this deal). How EA picked Manchester City out of all the clubs in the World is anyone’s guess, maybe someone is a fan.
Either way, let’s hope this is the first of many deals with clubs so that fans over the World can get more out of the game for their own specific team.
