Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has given an idea of just how important the GTA series is to the publisher, and indeed Rockstar itself, by revealing just how many sales the developer’s games are pulling in.
Speaking at a recent conference, Zelnick revealed that overall, the GTA franchise has exceeded 114 million units shipped to date, with the last game, GTA IV pulling in 22 million sales alone. In comparison GTA: San Andreas shipped 21.5 million units on PS2.
Figures for other Take-Two franchises were also revealed, with Midnight Club selling 18.5 million to date, NBA2K – 17 million, Red Dead Redemption – 12.5 million, Civilization – 11 million, BioShock – 9 million, Carnival Games is at 8 million, Max Payne – 7.5 million, the Mafia franchise – 5 million, Borderlands – 4.5 million, and finally The Darkness, which stands at a poor in comparison, 1 million.
Seems like Take-Two are doing ok for themselves, but then it is a company that’s always had the philosophy of quality over quantity.
Thanks, Industry Gamers.
