Uncharted 3 is without a doubt the biggest and most important PlayStation 3 release this year, in Sony’s eyes anyway, so it will come as no surprise to learn that the UK arm of hardware giant is planning to spend a whopping £5 million marketing it’s blockbuster game.
According to industry site MCV, Sony UK plans to spend the money on TV, online and magazine ad’s, as well on a short documentary film produced by Oscar-winning director Ed Zwick (Last Samurai, Shakespeare in Love) which will be hosted on YouTube and digital PlayStation channels.
“This will be the biggest launch in SCE UK’s history, both in terms of ambition, numbers and spend and will be supported by a marketing budget of around £5 million,” SCE UK senior product manager Ian Vinten told MCV. “To really reach that mass audience at launch we will be running a large outdoor campaign with a number of different premium formats including high quality 48-sheets as well as builds across the country.”
The documentary, Hero’s Journey, plans to look at what makes a truly heroic character and will include interviews with movie stars such as Troy’s Diane Kruger, Avatar’s Michelle Rodriguez and Nolan North, the voice of Uncharted’s Nathan Drake.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is due out November 2 in the UK exclusively on PlayStation3. You can pre-order your copy here.
