Ericsson bought out by Sony for $1.45 billion

Sony has purchased the remaining shares in mobile giant Ericsson, following a confirmed $1.45 billion buy out.

By completing the purchase, Sony will now bring mobile technology in house, adding a considerable string to its already impressive range of electronic devices.

“We can more rapidly and more widely offer consumers smartphones, laptops, tablets and televisions that seamlessly connect with one another and open up new worlds of online entertainment,” said Sony Chairman and CEO Sir Howard Stringer.

What this means for the future of devices such as PlayStation Vita remains to be seen, but the possibilities are quite exciting, since Sony can now integrate telephonic functions into any device it wishes to do so.

Thanks, Eurogamer.
