SCEA’s director of hardware marketing John Koller has said that demand for the PlayStation Vita is already “substantial.”
Speaking in an interview with AllThingsD, Koller said that Sony is working hard in both North America and Europe to try and meet demand for the Vita.
“We’ve increased production materially since E3. We learned our lesson to make sure you have enough product,” he said while citing studies saying studies that show 60 percent of current PlayStation Portable owners and 63 percent of PlayStation 3 owners will purchase a Vita within the next 18 months. That sounds like a lot of Vita’s.
Koller also believes that with more than 100 substantial games in development worldwide, there will be plenty of reasons for people to buy it right away, while also saying that Sony is not worried about the competition from devices such as Nintendo 3DS, iPhone and other smartphones.
“This is a larger game experience. We think we are insulated from the competition,” Koller said. “We love mobile games. Mobile and tablets games are additive.”
