Many sites are reporting news of a Microsoft Exec has revealed that the cloud is coming to Xbox, but we already know this don’t we?
“You will be seeing things in the Xbox platform that’s cloud-specific,” Brian Prince told an audience at GDC China (via Gamasutra).
“I’m already doing it, it’s really exciting, but I can’t tell you about it or else I’ll get fired.”
We aren’t really sure what he could mean by this, we already know for instance that the new dashboard will provide cloud storage, allowing gamers 512mb of space for game saves and by the sounds of his talk this could very well be what he is referring to.
He also went on to talk about other Cloud services, such as Onlive and Gaikai, saying, “these are really gaming platforms as a service. There are some limitations here, but I really do think this is the distant future of gaming in the cloud,” which suggests that this is no something on Microsoft’s mind at the moment.
Another reason we feel that he may be referring to the Cloud functions we already know about is that he went on to discuss other limitations for services such as Onlive and Gaikai, saying, “gamers need high speed internet access,” also adding “that’s fine if you live in a city, but most of America doesn’t live in a city, for example.”
What do you think, is he merely talking about Cloud Saving?
