US 3DS sales could surpass those of DS over same time period

Nintendo has suggested that first year sales of the 3DS in the US are set to overtake those of the DS over the same time period.

It had been thought that the 3DS was struggling, however  in its first year on sale the 3DS has sold 1.65 million units, compared to the 2.37 million sales DS managed in its first year, with most of the latter’s coming over the Xmas period.

“With a massive lineup of software on the way and the first-year sales record of Nintendo DS in its sights, Nintendo 3DS enters its first holiday season with a full head of steam,” said Nintendo America marketing boss Scott Moffitt.

If current trend continues and Nintendo has strong 3DS sales over the holiday period, then we would expect to see the 3DS sales to be stronger in its first year than those of the DS.
