Speaking to IndustryGamers in an upcoming “Pachter’s Podium” column, analyst Michael Patcher has told the site that he believes there will be no Xbox 360 successor until at least 2014.
While we don’t usually post stories based on analyst’s opinions, since they are mostly guesswork, what Patcher does say actually makes a lot of sense.
“Those rumors are silly,” Patcher told the site. “Microsoft is still selling a ton of Xbox 360s, and they won’t replace the existing one until sales begin to slow. I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8.
“I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don’t think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014.”
A new model would certainly explain the Project Loop name which has been flying around the internet recently and we certainly feel that a new Xbox 360 model being released would make a lot more sense than a next generation console, which at this stage may struggle to bring a lot more innovation than what is currently on offer.
