21 Games until Xmas: Gears of War 3

24 Games until Xmas is our special feature to build up to the end of the year, however that is not all.

Each member of staff was asked to provide their top twenty four games of the year; we have taken this list and will reveal a game each day until December 24, at which point we will unveil our number one game of the year.

There are some fantastic titles on the way and when the final game is revealed, that’s where you come in.

Once the number one game has been revealed we will then create a poll with all 24 games and ask you to vote on your own personal game of the year, this poll will run from December 24 until January 2nd, at which point we will announce the ShopToNews readers Game of The Year 2011.

We hope you are enjoying counting down our best 24 games of the year with us and if you have just joined us then make sure you check out the other games in the list.

Here’s the next…

21 Games until Xmas: Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 is the third, and final instalment in Epic games much adored third person shooter trilogy. We jump back on-board with Delta team, approximately two years after the previous games incidents, where they and the remnants of humanity are on their hind legs, due to the crippling Locust and Lambent attacks.

Gears of War 3 is on our list for a multitude of reasons, among those being that it holds the holy grail of online game play: dedicated servers. Those two words are enough to whet any passionate gamer’s appetite, and after Gears of War 2’s disappointing multiplayer, that was hoarded with lag, I’d imagine that any fan of the series sighed with relief when they heard that dedicated servers were coming to Gears 3. As for the multiplayer experience itself, it’s a rich blend of simplicity and refinement. With the addition of only two new starter weapons (giving us a total of 5 weapons to choose from), the developers gifted their loyal fans with the simplicity that we’ve all come to love, whilst also introducing us to new paths that will be sure to keep the game fresh in our minds. Novices to the series, don’t fret, as Epic have also made the game more open to new players, you don’t have to be a sharpshooter, or skilled warrior to succeed in the multiplayer, all you need to do is keep your head screwed on tight!

As for the campaign, it’s the most immersive yet, and for me, one of my top ten campaigns of all time – which is a commendable statement for the game. The campaign on insane mode (the hardest) will take you for a enthralling ten hour journey, that will be sure have you screaming in anguish and breaking down in tears. As for the plot, I don’t want to give away too much, but I must confess that it’s a full of emotional tangibility and captivating dialog, and in the end you’ll go through a plethora of emotions in order to reach its climatic halt.

In short, Gears of War 3 is a must have for any fan of shooters. Of course, I’ve only skimmed the surface of what this game really holds, if you’d like to read a more in-depth analysis of it, along with our thoughts, be sure to read our review of here.

If we’ve managed to convince you to add this excellent game to your collection, then be sure to visit our store, where you can grab it for the bargain price of only £27.85! Click here to purchase the normal version, or here to purchase the special edition!
