It’s been confirmed in a new report that Ico creator Fumito Ueda has left his position at Sony.
Ueda is the man responsible for starting up and leading Team Ico, the internal studio which were responsible for all time classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The team is currently working on The Last Guardian and Ueda will continue to work on the game in a freelance capacity.
The news comes via a statement sent to Gamasutra in which Sony confirmed that while the creator is no longer working as an employee, “he is finishing the upcoming The Last Guardian on a contract basis, and is committed to completing the project.”
Ueda’s departure follow that of The Last Guardian producer Yoshifusa Hayama, who has decided to leave Sony for social gaming company Bossa Studios.
