After hinting at a new game coming from the studio way back in 2010 with a ‘Name our Game’ competition, FuturLab has finally announced the title. The team behind Coconut Dodge have announced, via the PS EU Blog, a new portable-friendly PS Mini title entitled Velocity. The game sets you as a spaceship pilot named Kai Tana, who is tasked with saving the Earth’s fleet of starships from attack.
Managing director, James Marsden said on the Blog post: “Here at FuturLab we don’t think it is good enough to churn out cloned games. We wanted to do justice to the nostalgia of early games in the shoot-’em-up genre, so that people can pick up Velocity and feel right at home, but also feel the excitement of playing something completely new!”
Continuing, “After many months prototyping, we knew we had something special with Velocity – the teleporting mechanics had never been done before – so we wanted a big sound to complement the gameplay experience.”
The game will also have award-winning composer, Joris de Man, of Killzone 2 & 3 fame, co-writing and co-producing the music too.
Velocity will hit the PSN in March with PlayStation Plus Users getting their hands on it for free.
