The ‘Nextbox’ as we like to call it, will be released in Xmas 2013 and will include a Blu-Ray drive.
We have of course always predicted the Xmas 2013 release date, so this comes as no surprise to us, however according to VG247, it has learned that Microsoft has now detailed other aspects of the machine to partners, including the surprise inclusion of a Blu-ray drive.
In addition to the above, the site also claims that the Netbox will also include two GPUs, with one source claiming “It’s like two PCs taped together.”
Other information claims that the graphics cards are thought to be equivalent to AMD’s 7000 series GPUs, but “not CrossFire or SLI”, while the GPUs aren’t structured as they are in a normal dual PC set-up, therefore allowing the Nextbox’s graphic units to work independently.
It’s also being reported that the machine will include “four or six” cores to the Nextbox’s CPU, one of which will be reserved for Kinect and one for the OS. The Nextbox will also require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure.
Finally, VG247′s sources claim that the next generation of Kinect will be built into the machine as standard.
Big news. It also seems that Sony and MS are on the same page when it comes to certain features.
