More Next Gen news, this time regarding Sony’s next console.
According to a new report on VG247, Sony is aiming to release PlayStation 4 before the next Xbox, with certain developers already lined up to attend a reveal meeting which will take place this May and June.
“Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time. You should be watching the timing of next year’s E3 keynotes, and who’s going to go first,” said a source to the site.
A second source told the site that all next-generation systems will be in place “by 2014″, while the report suggests that Sony has already put key publishers in the frame.
“Top line publishers already know about it,” the source said. “Developers working with publishers – like Ubisoft, for example – already know what’s going on. They’re already working on it.”
Any publishers who haven’t been told about the console by June, will apparently be in the loop before the end of the year.
Finally, it was mentioned that PlayStation 4 will provide a development environment similar to that of the Xbox consoles and PC, while VG247 were also told that elements of Vita’s launch hardware were changed to ensure that PS4 and Vita will be able to connect in a similar style to Nintendo’s Wii U and its controller, with Vita’s being used to control PS4 games with both twin sticks and touch.
We expect more rumours to appear soon, after all, E3 is on the horizon.
