Rumour: More ‘Orbis’ details arrive

IGN’s posted up more details on the apparent specs of the PlayStation 4 or ‘Orbis’ as it’s currently known.

Apparently,  the ‘Orbis’ will house custom chips based on AMD’s A8-3850 APU and Radeon HD 7670 GPU, offering the combined performance of both integrated and discrete graphics processors.

According to research, the HD 7670 is a rebranded version of last year’s HD 6670, sporting identical specs across the board. The HD 6670 is the same card that’s rumoured to be in the ‘ Nextbox’.

What all of this means is that both consoles will be near identical when it comes to graphical power, although do we really believe that this will be the case given that the consoles aren’t expected until the end of 2013? We all know how fast technology moves on, so we’re guessing it could be possible that both of the consoles innards could change significantly in this time.

There is no doubt that the off-the-shelf parts are being custom tooled for the consoles. We just aren’t sure what those will be, despite the rumours.
