The next Xbox is already being manufactured according to a new report.
IGN sources, are claiming assembly of the next-generation Xbox hardware started recently at the Austin, Texas branch of Flextronics. The same electronics company currently assembling Xbox 360 and also the manufacturer of the original Xbox.
Flextronics apparently created a new testing group separate from the rest of the company, which was responsible for marketing, software, and hardware tests of the next Xbox. Once concluded, construction of the next Xbox began, although IGN states that this doesn’t mean we’ll see the Nextbox soon.
The most likely scenario is that the kits being developed are dev kits, allowing Microsoft to start sending these out Worldwide to developers so that they can make a start on the next generation of games.
Microsoft issued the standard response when IGN queried these findings:
“Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend its lifecycle like introducing the world to controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation.”
Flextronics, meanwhile, provided IGN with no comment.
