Retailers made £45.8m from software sales last month, according to new data from UKIE.
This figure represents a 34.1 per cent drop over the same period last year. Overall just over 2 million games were sold at UK retail, down 33.2 percent compared to the same time period last year, although this April did lack big titles such as Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat which released in April 2011.
Microsoft’s Kinect Star Wars and Activision’s Prototype 2 did manage to drum up some enthusiasm amongst gamers, although it was FIFA Street which sold most copies overall.
The coming months are looking better as far as upcoming titles are concerned, Starhawk has just released, charting at number 17, while Rockstar’s Max Payne 3, Dragon’s Dogma from Capcom and Codemasters DiRT Showdown are likely to perform well.
