Project Copernicus screens hit net, 38 studios still in trouble

The first screens for 38 Studios upcoming MMO ‘Project Copernicus’ have leaked onto the internet.

Three races, known as the Almain, Dverga and Jottun, are shown in the screens, although given that 38 Studios is currently in all sorts of financial trouble, whether the game will ever become a reality is anyone’s guess.

According to a recent report by Joystiq, 38 Studios employees have not been paid since May 1, while Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee said experts had advised him Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was a “flop.”

Problems at the studio started when the company missed a $1 million loan repayment to Rhode Island for a loan of $8 million that was made to coax the studio to move to the city. This means that should the studio become insolvent, Rhode Island will own its IP, which is thought to be worth around $20 million.

The drama continues, but lets just hope for the sake of the staff, the future of the studio and Project Copernicus, that things get sorted out.
