SCEA Boss, Jack Tretton, has said in a recent interview that the companies new handheld, NGP, could be delayed into 2012 in most regions due to the recent earthquake in Japan.
“It may be the straw that says ‘maybe we get to just one market by the end of the year,’” said Tretton to Bloomberg, although he did not specify which region would be the launch recipient.
The delay would of course give Sony and its third party developers the chance to finish development on the earlier games, meaning when the device does release there would be a wealth of launch titles.
“It raises the bar on the competitive issues that Sony is going to have to hurdle. As it is now, it’s already going to be almost eight months behind Nintendo, and a delay could push that to a year and delivery when the iPad 3 may be coming out,” said Wedbush Morgan analyst Edward Woo.
Should Sony be worried about a delay or could it actually benefit the company?
