Android gets a ‘hackable’ gaming console

A new android gaming console by the name of Ouya is set to hit the US market for just $99.

The console has been designed by Yves Behar, who had previously worked on Jawbone Jambox and One Laptop Per Child, however he’s not the only talent of note on board with this. Apparently the project also includes Ed Fries of Xbox fame, Amol Sarva, who worked on the Amazon Kindle and Julie Uhrman of IGN as its founder and CEO.

Anyone who picks up the $99 Android game console will be able to connect it to a TV. Any developer will be able to publish games and all games will be free to play. Everyone who buys the box will essentially be getting a dev kit too, since the system is designed to be hacked.

It could be an interesting piece of kit, so it’ll be good to see how things pan out for it.

Thanks, Verge.
