Nintendo has revealed that 3DS sales more than doubled between April-June this year, compared to the same time last year.
The 3DS managed to shift 1.86 million units during April-July 2012, that’s 710,000 more the same period for 2011.
Nintendo also revealed that it expects to sell 18.5 million 3DS consoles in the year ending March 2013, although this no doubt includes sales of the 3DS XL, which releases in Europe on Saturday.
Thanks to the increase in sales, Nintendo narrowed its loss for the quarter from ¥25.5 billion ($326 million) to ¥17.2 billion ($220.4 million).
Wii sales once again dropped, managing to shift 710,000 for Q1, down 1.56 million from last year.
DS sales dropped to 540,000, down from 1.44 million in Q1 2011.
Looks like Nintendo is left hoping that the Wii U will sell well upon release, otherwise it’s left with only the 3DS to shore up it’s profits.
