FIFA 13 exec producer doesn't see cross platform gaming in the franchises future

FIFA 13's executive producer David Rutter has said that he can't see cross platform play happening anytime soon.

In an interview with the gaming website AusGamers, Rutter said on the topic of Cross Platform gaming:
"For the EA Sports Football club, it kind of is cross platform and we've been lucky to have brilliant partners in both Sony and Microsoft when dealing with that, and obviously Apple with their iOS devices has been great too."

"So I think as far as actually being able to play head to head, or anything like that, I can't ever envisage a time when that would happen," Rutter continued "but certainly for profiles and other things like that, and sharing of certain stuff is absolutely doable and we're really, really pleased that they're letting us do it"

FIFA 13 is out at the end of the month and you can preorder your copy at ShopTo below.

Not overly bothered by this. It's obvious if you've played on both systems that they have totally different styles of play, speed of play and things. It'd go a long way to proving who is the better player overall, but 95% of my mates have playstation 3s, so the only ones I'm bothered about being better than are them.

This would be one of the main reasons for no cross platform play. each platform will run differently, code will be slightly different, engines could even run slightly different, resulting in unbalanced, glitchy gameplay. Imagine being on PS3 playing against someone on iOS! Like ths sound that over server side content could be shared though. Maybe we will eventually see pro and game save sharing between PS3 and Vita one day.

I thought this would be kind of obvious it wouldn't happen otherwise people wouldn't base their console choice on what their mates have

I thought cross platform play already existed between some PC and 360 games?. Although it would be nice between different consoles, i can't see it happening anytime soon.

I dont think cross platform gaming is essential with fifa or any outher game as there are more than enough oppenents on each individual platform to keep you playin on the one console. Developers should concentrate on things like game lag in certain titles to even the playing field.

Although not essential, cross platform gaming would be a good idea to bridge the gap from 360 to PS3 owners, it would bring the gaming community together as a whole, how could that not be a good thing
