Treyarch details Black Ops 2 leveling system

Treyarch's David Vonderhaar, has took to the Call of Duty community boards to give an insight as to what to expect from the Black Ops 2 unlocking system.

According to Vonderhaar, Black Ops 2 will feature a total of 55 ranks, with a similar XP system to that of World At War and Modern Warfare, but at a faster rate of leveling with the added medals and challenges.

The developer also adds that you'll unlock a new 'create class' at level 4, which will also give you the following items:

1 Assault Rifle
1 Shotgun
1 Sniper Rifle
1 Perk from each of the 3 perk categories
1 lethal grenade
1 tactical grenade/equipment

Once you pass level 4, unlocks looks like this:

Level 5: Perk

Level 6: Equipment

Level 7: Scorestreak (3 free and 3 optional ones to unlock with tokens)

Level 8: Perk

Level 9: Scorestreak

"At level 10, we start to settle into a pattern. There are exceptions, but the pattern is generally like this," says Vonderhaar. "At every major rank change, which is every 3 levels, we give you a gun and usually 'something else' as a bonus for reaching a major rank change."

An example of this is as follows:

Level 10 - Weapon + Something Else
Level 11 - Equipment (either lethal or tatical).
Level 12 - Scorestreak

This pattern then repeats through all 55 levels with some minor variations.

Black Ops 2 arrives late this year.

I will admit I'm quite looking forward to this one if only to try out the new ideas I appreciate Treyarch trying to shake things up

Yeah i agree, as much as i like COD, i find they play all the same (if that make's any sense). I'm hoping this game changes up the game mechanics quite abit while still maintaining that COD feel.

It looks like a good way to move the title forward im just hoping that they get the match making right as id like to play with people at my skill. At the moment im thrown in with top players and its just no fun respawning most of the game. Im surprised there is no support streak though as I die to much to get any high level kill streaks lol.

Unfortunately CoD has just become a game about getting the highest killstreak possible. They try every year to change it but it still ends with the same result, regardless of how often they rename them. If they want to "fix" the game they should strip out the killstreaks and perks and return to they days of CoD4. It was the simplisity of this game, but with it's small amount of added extra's in the form of a few perks and only 3 killstreaks that worked. It was more of a level playing field as everyone had access to the same killstreaks and it didn't make those not as good at chaining kills together feel like the game is unplayable. Drop killstreaks and sort out matchmaking and it might end up as a good game again.

I just hope that they don't continually change the goalposts like infinity ward did with MW3. It was quite irritating the way they did that from level 10 to 15 and then to 20.

I hate to admit it, but the CoD series always grabs my attention every year. This level system seems pretty decent, CoD standard really (nothing too complicated). November can't come quick enough :(
