Konami Japan cancels Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Konami has cancelled the Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance in Japan.

Posting a notice on it's Japanese website, the company states that "due to various reasons, the launch of the Japanese version will be made only on PlayStation 3."

The publisher states that it sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience and hopes that people will be understanding regarding this issue.

This will no doubt come as a blow for Microsoft, which despite trying its best to break into Japan is still to make any sort of real impact.

As far we know and are concerned, this will not affect the Xbox 360 version elsewhere in the world.

It looks that way. I hope so as I'd rather it on 360 than PS3

No big deal, didn't look all that great anyway, just a generic hack and slasher.

You need to add a nickname in your account settings. This will get rid of the Anonymous name. Cheers :)

I think it looks pretty good. I love the way you can slash through something exactly where your sword cuts through it. Like the tech demo where the cut up a water melon into little pieces.

I presume this is because there isnt many 360's sold in Japan and its not cost effective.

Yeah, it's obvious this is due to the sales of the 360. Also, didn't Vanquish do pretty poorly in Japan on the 360? Maybe that has to do with it too.

Every live demo has used the 360 controller? Weird!

Evey live demo outside Japan, because they think that is what western audiences want to see. I've spoken to people who attended PAX in the US recently, and the PS3 version was the one playable on the floor for the public. PS3 has been lead platform for this game's development.

Feel sorry for the Japanese Xbox owners. I think the game looks badass. Ridiculously stupid but in a good way

Makes sense. Not only was the MGS HD collection a massive bomb in Japan (Selling about a tenth what even the Vita version sold during respective launch periods) but the 360 has been a total disaster in Japan as a whole to the point where some companies just don't bother releasing multiplatform versions of games for it in Japan at all these days (Dark Souls being a good recent example). Hell, many shops in Japan no longer even stock the console. Why would they release MGR for it really? PS3 has been the lead development platform for the game anyways, so it will likely be the version to get, so Japan will likely not be missing out.

Also, given what a show Microsoft made of this game coming to 360 a couple of E3s back, this is quite the PR embarassment for the company.

How well has the 360 done in Japan? If it's been a dud then this shouldn't be a problem
Shnoorum's avatar
From what I've heard it's flopped terribly.

Not at all surprising and good business sense really, when you consider just how poorly the 360 has performed in Japan. Microsoft may as well just look to next gen and see what they can do there. The 360 has been dead for too long in Japan for one game to really make it sell at this point.

aslong as its coming out in the UK still im a happy man, would have preferred an olden style metal gear game but i spose this will have to do.

I dont know, this is looking to be just as good in my oppinion. Granted, it's hard to compare the 2 styles since they're vastly different but I think it's looking rather brilliant so far.

It's just kinda weird that Metal Gear and all is Japanese made, but hasn't done so well over there as of late.
