Microsoft renews the Killer Instinct trademark

Microsoft has announced the revival of the Killer Instinct trademark late last night.

The news was announced via the PlayXBLA blog.

"With all due respect to our friends in the media who like to frequent trademark sites, we thought we'd break this one ourselves. :)

Our legal eagles have authorized us to say: ?We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions."

That?s it! Have a good Monday!"

Could this mean that a new game is coming from the violent 90's fighting series? Or could it just mean that Microsoft intends to publish HD remakes of the Rare's classic hits once owned by Nintendo?

New game or HD ports would be equally welcome.

I remember such fond memories of this B tier title on the SNES. It was never Street Fighter, but boy did it have some character.

The fact that MS announced it makes this worth while news rather than simply protecting the name. And seeing as it was their XBLA site that's a good sign its a XBLA game maybe a port of the original games to see if people are still interested in it and if they can attract new gamers. Just keep Kinect away from it.

Be wary everyone. Rare are not the same Rare that we loved back in the 90's. This could be bad news
