PS Vita getting two new colours in Japan

Earlier today at their Tokyo Games Show press conference, Sony announced that the PS Vita will be getting a new lick of paint in Japan.

From November 15th, the handheld console will be available to buy in two brand new colours, 'Cosmic Red' and 'Sapphire Blue'. The PS Vita is already available in the usual Black and a White version in Japan.

Sony are yet to say if the new colours will hit European or American shores, they do look rather nice though.

Is it going to make it sell more units? I doubt it....

No I highly doubt it will sell new units. However, It's meant to be a fun hand held device and a couple of new colours is always a bonus when picking one up!

Both look pretty nice colour-wise, though I'd love a game-specific model, like with the Final Fantasy PSP or Kingdom Hearts DS. Regardless, with the recent 1.8 update I'd imagine an increase in sales, as being able to play the original MGS or Resident Evils on a portable is pretty damn sweet. =D

I dont think they look too good I prefer the original black version. A few game related special editions might improve sales.

Why didn't they do this at launch? Much like 3DS they released 2 initial colour options then added more several months later. How difficult is it to have more options at launch? Its only the casing and buttons and moulding them in different colours isn't that complex

Japan always get more console colours :/ I would always like the options but I'm pretty happy with the Black version, still think it looks best. I do like the white but when I had a white psp it just got dirty quick.

Yes the colour is what's stopping people buying the PS Vita it has nothing to do with the lack of must have games

Sony continues to make it difficult for me to justify keeping my Vita and not sell it

I haven't heard great things about the Vita overall, and personally I am not interested. Surely this is basically like putting lipstick on a pig?

Maybe, but that pig just so happens to be a very sexy pig

You might want to try getting some opinions from people who actually have a Vita. Most of the complaints about it I've encountered have been from general non-owners and insecure 3DS owners. I've learned to tune such people out, but really it's a fantastic console. The next two or three months have a pretty packed schedule of releases.

Hmm I am slightly confused why they couldn't have a replaceable front plate to choose colors instead of a entire system rebuild.

I've unfortunately had to sell my Vita only recently (last week) to pay for a trip to Munich and was already planning on picking one up again in the new year, so seeing these is a good thing. Not sure which I'd get, but probably Red.
