Sony: Vita and PS3, a great alternative to Wii U

SCEA VP of Marketing John Koller has said that PS3 and Vita can work together to combat any threat from the Wii U.

"We tell our PlayStation fans all the time that what the Wii U is offering is something that Vita and PS3 can do quite easily," Koller told Engadget.

Koller also went on to say that while Sony may be able to provide a similar experience to Nintendo with this combination, it's not something they'll be forcing on gamers.

"It's dependent on the content. So we need to make sure the content isn't force fed."

Would you like to see features similar to those on Wii U? Let us know below.

This is something i have often talked with friends. The vita does offer a far more responsive package with the advantage of HD touch screen tech with double analogues and rear touch pad. Not to mention the cross platform purchases so you only need to buy once is amazing value. Not to mention the easy firmware advantage Sony has if/when they launch the PS4 so the Vita is reasonably future proof unlike Wii U's Current gen technology.

I personally would like to see them try. Cos, you know, the PS Move was implemented so well as an alternative for the Wii wasn't it? /sarcasm In all seriousness though, Vita really does have the potential to do what the Wii U and its game pad does, but I don't see Sony using it to its full advantage in honesty. They're always dropping the ball on PSP and PS Vita anyway. If they want us to take this statement seriously then they're gonna have to get more third party developers interested in the Vita to start with and THEN they're gonna have to force a dev or two to make games for the PS3 and Vita to work together. It won't work I'd they leave it to choice cos it just won't happen.

Great alternative, or expensive alternative? A PS3 and Vita will cost way more than a Wii U premium bundle.

Hmm not sure about this. I think I'd rather the Playstation/Vita stuck to what they're good at and Nintendo to what they're good at. I think the consoles are two different things honestly. One is more fun and family friendly and the other more online play (with a hint of family fun games too!)

i think one of the main advantages of the PS3 and Vita is the cross play option hopefully they really push that as I like the idea of buying it on one system and being able to play on both.

I wanted a Vita ever since it was announced, but when the line-up of games was shown, I was put off. That and the fact you can't use your own SD cards as memory storage. The price just adds up with a Vita. I'd honestly prefer a WiiU over a vita, but that's just my opinion.

All true... except both the Vita and PS3 actually have worthwhile looking games on the way for them in the next 6 months, the Wii U does not.

Yeah, because Zombi U and Bayonetta 2 will be crap, won't they? Oh wait, no they won't, and they are just third party games.

ZombiU does look pretty crap imo actually, and Bayonetta 2 is a minimum of a year away, so it isn't even a factor for the Wii U right now. Not surprising you couldn't think of any worthwhile first party titles to list either... because aside from Mario Bros and Pikmin, there don't seem to be any, and even those barely look any better than HD Wii games :/

I have only really preferred PS3 and X360 and have both as well as a PS Vita. I'm more then happy with what I have here and to me Vita and PS3 is better(In my opinion).

Since I already have both then any extra functionality is a good one, I'm not hugely interested in the Wii U but if Sony do some sweet cross-buy deals that have extra features like this then it can only be a good thing for me :D.

GLORIA, you seem to be moaning a whole lot in these posts, can we try keep this calm? I've found Shopto a good place to express my opinion and a great alternative to other news sites, overall it has a generally nice commuinity... Back to the subject though, I get on well with my Vita and I LOVE it! It really is the PS3's killer app, I'm glad Sony see the potential with it and I really hope that they implement more and more features into it, I may also cancel my Wii U bundle I preordered, as after Zombii U and Lego City, I think I'd be done with it...

I dont think they really compare. A WiiU isnt high on my list of purchases, but it is one I shall probably pick up close to launch, if anything just to add to my collection. I do like to have them all after all. :)
