Ecco the Dolphin set for a return?

Do you remember the days of swimming through the oceans with Ecco the Dolphin?

Well it seems like someone is hoping for those days to return, since Ecco series creator Ed Annunziata revealed via Twitter that we may be seeing a new game in the series sooner than we thought possible.

"Chances of a new Ecco the Dolphin x100!" he excitedly wrote on his account.

Ecco the Dolphin first surfaced on Sega Mega Drive, with plenty of sequels also released in the year's after. There have been plenty of re-releases since the last game in the series, however nothing has been mentioned of anything new until now.

I'd be interested in this if they can pull it off well. Too many classic games get remade badly these days though.

You made quite a funny comment. Back in a days of Sega MegaDrive I played Ecco and completed it - beat the crap out of that alien machine and saved my pod. This days I've launched Sega MegaDrive Collection on PSP and was frustrated by Ecco - it plays exactly like the old game but gameplay itself would be considered hardcore nowadays! Try it yourself - you'll see :) In other words, "proper" remake would probably be a failure since modern gamers are pussies :)

Yes please, The Dreamcast game was very under rated by gamers [like the console]

Can't say I ever loved this games as a kid. I can certainly some potential for a beautiful exploration based experience if they take it down that route though.

Brilliant. I used to love this game! Not quite sure why though. I have a phobia of fish!

Interesting franchise to try and revive liked the games as a kid never played the PS2 version defender of the future. But i dont think it did that well so seems strange to go back to it.

Ahhhh I remember those days playing Ecco on Mega Drive, the days we had countless hours of fun playing some simplistic looking but hard video games. For example Streets of Rage and Golden Axe. I hope with this release SEGA also have the courage to give us a reboot of Streets of Rage, or at least sell the rights so another company can develop it.
