Black Ops II to include texture install on PS3

Black Ops II Game Director David Vonderhaar has revealed that the PS3 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will come with a new ?texture install? option.

Speaking via the game's official forums, Vonderhaar said, "Fans having been demanding [this] for a bit. Black Ops 2 has an option to "Install Textures to HDD."

"When we explained to PS3 folks that installing to the HDD wouldn't neccessarily give us any significant performance gains, they explained back that the issue is they play so much it puts constant stress on the Blu-ray drive and wears them out," Vonderhaar explained.

"It's a non-trivial amount of HDD space to install all the textures. I don't want to get into exactly numbers because anything can, and does change during development.

"You don't have to install to enjoy the game. We still pre-cache like we did on Black Ops."

If it was HD textures like EA did with B3 that would be cool but come on the COD series has never pushed the current consoles by any means.

Will be an improvement no doubt, but graphically there are lots of areas that annoy me with Black ops 1

I love it when developers listens to their customers. I know that you aren't going to please every single person who buys your games, but when you keep the majority happy it can never be bad.

Great idea. As long as it isn't large, like they say, all will be fine.

If it makes things look nicer and reduces texture pop in etc then it can only be a good thing :). Kind of tempted by Black Ops 2 for some reason, haven't got round to MW3 yet though.

Please describe the nature of the abuse:
