Wii U is region locked

Looking forward to importing games from all over the world for your Wii U? Well think again.

IGN reports that in this week?s edition of Famitsu, the following quote from the magazine can be found.

?What can be played on the Wii U is restricted by a region-lock feature; software not sold in the same region cannot be played.?

Nintendo has previously region locked Wii, 3DS and DS, so this perhaps comes as no surprise. It's still a little disappointing for some though.

Not exactly a deal breaker. I think I've only imported 2 games in my life, and that was only because they were cheaper in Japan.

DS wasn't region-locked, Joe.

I think it was the DSi that was region-lock

and so is the 3ds now I think handhelds should be region free at least and consoles whatever the choice of the company

OT- I will not be getting a Wiiu but it does suck that they're doing this. It doesn't really help Nintendo to do this and the consumers.

It's not a big deal, more consoles have been region locked than haven't over the years.

It's very affecting when Nintendo does this as most of their best games come out in Japan weeks - if not months - before it comes out in the EU.

Shame about region locking, some great Japanese titles that won't see the light of day here and we won't get to play them. :(
