A Quick Look at the best games for 3DS

With all of the hype and attention lavished on the Wii U, the 3DS was pushed to the side-lines at the Eurogamer Expo and may of been overlooked by many; a real shame as what was on offer shows that this is still a console to be reckoned with.

We didn't spend a lot of time with Nintendo's handheld due to a lack of time on our part, however we'd still like to highlight the games which did stick out for us.

First off we have some new adventures with Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, jammed full of plenty of mind bending puzzles to keep you occupied for hours on end with its familiar blend of anime and puzzles, making the Professor, Luke and Emmy revisit a dark case from the Profs past. Sure it may have been out in Japan for a while, but it seems like this one will definitely have been worth the wait.

Vampire slaying finally arrives to the 3DS with the return of Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate. Carrying one from the Xbox 360 game this is classic platform gaming with a 3D update. There are plenty of familiar 'vania' traits with a huge map to uncover, full of secret passages and huge boss battles plus of course the vampire hunters weapon of choice, the whip. A 2D platformer with 3D visuals the gameplay has been altered from previous handheld versions, most notably the fighting, with our antagonist now playing more like Kratos from God of War, with a selection of whip attacks, projectiles and grabs to brutalise your enemies.

Finally we had a brief go on Nintendo's other brother's solo outing, Luigi's Ghost Mansion: Dark Moon. The first game was a GameCube classic, this sequel again teams up Luigi with Professor E.Gadd to carry out some ghost busting missions. Armed initially only with his torch, the ever shaking Luigi ventures into the many rooms of a haunted mansion, quickly gaining powers from his newly found Poltergust 5000 and then taking on all manner of spirits, sucking up ghosts and coins. Of all of the games played on the Nintendo stand the 3D visuals of Luigi's Ghost Mansion really burst from the screen, adding even more tension to what looks like yet another classic outing for Luigi.
