PlayStation Mobile to launch tomorrow with 20 games, also on PS Vita

PlayStation Mobile will launch tomorrow with 20 games, all of which will be playable on the PlayStation Vita.

Shahid Ahmad, senior business development for PlayStation Mobile at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has said in a new interview that most games will be from indie developers at first, although the service is not limited to smaller studios.

"PlayStation Mobile brings the trusted PlayStation brand to mobile, and we're launching with over 20 titles, mainly from independent developers," he said.

"It's a new platform that will bring PlayStation games to mobile, and mobile games to PlayStation."

Launch titles include new games Rebel from PomPom Games as well as the simply brilliant Beat Sliders and Fuel Tiracas from Futurlab (both of which we are testing out right now, more soon).

PlayStation Mobile will go live in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan and Australia to begin with, with other countries seeing launch later down the line.

At this moment, games seem to be compatible with the following devices:

PlayStation Vita
Xperia acro
Xperia acro HD
Xperia ion
Xperia S
Xperia arc
Xperia PLAY
Sony Tablet S
Sony Tablet P

Sony is in talks with plenty of partners, so expect this list to grow even more.

What we are mainly curious about is why Sony hasn't been screaming about this from the rooftops. Both games we have played so far are excellent and we believe that at least one of them (Fuel Tiracas) will launch for just 40 pence.

Keep an eye on the site for more details.

I am quite excited for this and my Vita. Sounds like a nice idea and having some bite size gaming experiences on the handheld will be fun.

I think that's the sort of thing the Vita needs really. The reason I think Sony handhelds have never been that successful is they keep trying to shoehorn home console games on to the handhelds. This is fine for some games, but as it's a handheld you really need games you can play on the go, where you can have a quick blast whilst waiting for the bus. Nintendo know this and take full advantage of it, that's why they always win the handheld war.

I do find it vey odd that they're being so quiet about it aswell. This is the first I've heard of it I think. Seems like somewhat big news. Not big news to me since I dont like playing games on phones but there is a rather big market for it.

Oops just read it properly and the part about being playable on the Vita aswell. So are these games pretty much Minis like the ones on the PSN?
