Wii U supports in-game chat, but only through certain headsets

Good news! Some Wii U games will support in-game voice chat, the bad news? You'll need to shell out on a licensed headset to do so, it seems.

Speaking to Kotaku, Nintendo said that 'select games' including Assassin's Creed III, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Mass Effect will all support in-game chat on the new home console

But rather that using the GamePad's inbuilt microphone, chat would require a licensed headset from Mad Catz or Turtle Beach to be plugged into the GamePad. Another thing to point out is the lack of headphone jack on the Pro Controller.

Nintendo has currently not spoken on universal voice chat within Wii U games, but if they do we'll have the story.

The Nintendo Wii U releases November 30th, have you preordered your console yet? Do so today at ShopTo.

Seems an odd way to support online play. Good old Nintendo.

Buy a £50+ headset just to use in game voice chat? Bit of a strange one Nintendo. I see them adding universal support down the line.

Can't say I'm bothered, not going to be playing any of those games, but it does seem a little silly not to use the controllers inbuilt microphone and speakers.

This does seem a very convuluted way to use online chat or maybe just another way to make more money.

Not making any money for Nintendo, as it's third party headsets.
