SingStar confirmed as free-to-play-ish

Sony has confirmed that SingStar will now be available to everyone in SCE Europe territories (as well as Australia and New Zealand) as a free download straight from the XMB.

To play you'll only need to install SingStar from the XMB and from then on you'll be able to share your performances with the community and visit the SingStore to get hold of more great tracks for your collection.

If you have a PlayStation Eye, then for single player at least, you won't even need a mic, since it'll work with your camera. If you want to play multiplayer you will need mics, although these can be bought separately.
Here's some highlights of SingStar on the XMB:

- The client is FREE, no disc required!
- Sing with PS Eye
- Compatible with SingStar microphones, official PlayStation Wireless headsets and common USB microphones
- Short demo songs available for download for new SingStore customers
- Easy access PS2 and PS3 disc swap from song carousel
- Use PSP or PS Vita to create playlists with SingStar Remote
- Instantly share your performances with the SingStar community and your friends on Facebook
- Acquire new trophies

SingStar for free? Sounds fun to us, although technically you don't get any songs for free, you will need to pay for them.

Certainly an interesting direction to take, you can also sing along with a headset or the camera. Thats a nice touch, no need for the 'expensive' mics. Having it just on the XMB means I can see myself or more likely my other half at least dabbling with this.

good idea putting it on the xmb in terms of getting attention towards it.
