Ubisoft say Assassin's Creed III on the Wii U is 'exactly the same' as other formats

Speaking with GI.biz, Alex Hutchinson, Assassin's Creed III's creative director, has stated that the Wii U version of the Assassin's Creed sequel will be exactly the same in content and performance when compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

"I'm super excited whenever we demo the Wii U. It is exactly the same game that's on the other platforms." Said Hutchinson to GamesIndustry.biz, "And I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's been a long time since I've shipped a game on more than three platforms where you could say it?s all the same. It's not like some radically diminished version, so that's exciting."

The Wii U version of the game will allow players to take the new console's GamePad to display the in game map and quickly equip different weapons.

Hutchinson added "It's always a challenge with new hardware, but it's also exciting," Hutchinson said. "I love the smell of new plastic, that day you get home with your new piece of kit. And it's been a long time since we've had a new piece of kit."

Assassin's Creed III launches on the Wii U on November 30th.

This is good news, let's hope other titles will follow suit.

Good in some ways, but kind of disappointing they haven't done anything much with the controller.

Incredible. The "next gen" wii U is now capable of running the games of it's last gen rivals. (Evidently not a Wii Fan.)

You could say the same thing about the Doom 3 BFG edition.

But that's actually not as good as it was last gen due to the omission of co-op.

Version arriving much later on "next gen" console (And that seemingly costs more judging from retailer pre-order pricing) will be "exactly the same" as game releasing on 6 year old consoles? That's some positive spin being put on some very disappointing information. It'll be interesting to see how the multiplayer on the Wii U version turns out considering how compromised the Nintendo Network is currently shaping up to be (See: Voice chat implementation & Sonic Racing 2 online multi articles over the last week). All I'm seeing with this thing so far is "Pay more for this new console and you MIGHT get the same thing consoles you already own have !". That's laughable.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you hate Nintendo, we get it.

You can post that as many times as you like, but these criticisms of the Wii U only become more valid with every passing week.

Because third parties are just doing straight ports doesn't mean that's all it's capable of. The first round of Xbox 360 games were little more than ports of last gen games, and some that weren't were bloody awful looking back at them now. You are making snap judgements based on games being rushed out for launch, with your usual bias. Anything can be spun both ways, you say it's bad that it's getting the same games as the 360 and your beloved PS3, but how can a solid line up of popular established franchises be a bad thing, it's a better launch line up than most consoles get.

Disappointing really, there's very little reason for me to wait and pick up the game at a later date now, much like Mass Effect 3. I think either way I'll be waiting until the game is reduced. It happened quickly for the past few years and I doubt this one will be much different.
