Wii U requires day one update

IGN has revealed that the Wii U system needs an update to add certain functionality.

The site's revealed that it now has a Wii U in its office, adding that it needed to update the system in order to add features such as Miiverse, Wii U Chat, Nintendo TVii and the eShop.

Apparently those buying the retail version of the Wii U will also be required to update the system on day one.

We are hoping to be able to provide you with as much Wii U coverage as we possibly can, allowing you to choose the best games for you and understand the features of the system. Look out for our coverage leading up to and after launch.

No big deal, if you haven't got an internet connection you wouldn't be able to use those features anyway.

Thats if we even get on release date. Shopto are being very vague as to whether they'll have enough stock for release anyways. (I questioned since a lot of great bundles have recently went up and they said that would lose my place in the queue and to expect it within 2 weeks of release :( )

They did say there would be shortages at launch, always the way with new consoles.

They did. But if you've had one pre-ordered since as soon as they put the up (literally as soon as they had them up for PO) and can't confirm if you will or will not get on release it's kinda worrying

What I don't understand and am curious about is why they can't confirm ours but are still saying a guarantee on all the Wii U pages. Please shopTo - put us out of our misery and just let all us hardcore devotees know when we can expect to get the machines we're desperate for :) Thanks!!

something i have always wondered,if you dont have internet(very rare now adays)why not supply or ask for a disc with it on by request hardly would cost a great deal surly

There is no point, the update is just for online stuff. If an update is required for offline stuff the games that requires it will include it on the disc, no need for a seperate disc.

i must be the only person who has no interest in the wii u, might pick one up later. really can see this having a price drop quickly like the 3ds

I don't think you'll get a price drop that soon, not when demand is outstripping supply at the current price.

Even less likely there will be a price drop when Nintendo have said they will be selling them at a loss.

Yeah. i know i have been questioning them as well. and was told the same thing. its a joke. The people that preordered months ago before the bundles were announced are going to lose out. its a stupid system if you had a preorder you should of been able to upgrade that preorder to one of the bundles so you don't lose your place in the cue. If they don't know how much stock they are getting and can't gurantee it for day one they shouldn't be taking pre orders or at the very least there should be a warning that you might not get your wii u for two weeks after release.

Seems only fair for us people who have to wait until launch to do anything and you've got reviews getting them early seeing everything! Nothing new either happens to all new consoles!
