Grand Theft Auto V - Read all of Game Informer's info here!

Game Informer's massive Grand Theft Auto V edition issue has just gone live and we're picking through all 23 pages of content to bring you the most important bits. We'll be updating this post as we go.

Grand Theft Auto V will feature three main protagonists, Michael, Trevor and Franklin.

Each different character possesses different abilities and capabilities, and all three have levels of customisation. All three protagonists will have a fleshed out and engrossing story arc.

"Each character has a fully fleshed out story arc, but instead of waiting until the finale to introduce complex story missions, GTAV peppers several complicated, multitiered heists in the vein of GTA4's popular "Three Leaf Clover" mission across the narrative." Dan Houser goes on to say that heists are a big theme in the game.

During gameplay, you'll be able to change between any of the three lead characters at almost any time,  a quick menu can be called up to switch characters, the camera pulls away into a Google Earth-style vantage point and then drops into wherever the chosen character is. When you are not controlling the other characters, they go about their daily business and you may be surprised to see what they are doing when you jump back to them.

During a chase through Los Santos the player can switch to Trevor to pilot the getaway, snipe the other pilots as Franklin, or fire an assault rifle out the back of a chopper as Michael, all pretty nifty.

The character of Trevor is described as having a "maniacal personality" Trevor is in Blaine County, a barren, rundown desert region filled with bikers, meth heads and other people from the fringes of society

Characters can even "flick off" other non playable characters and some react differently depending on the area.

Grand Theft Auto V "evolves nearly every mechanic, features the biggest world in series history and introduces a new technology that radically changes the way players control the game."

The city of Los Stantos is "bigger than RDR, GTA IV and San Andreas combined." and you can even explore the underwater parts of the city.

Confirmed playable activities with in the game include Yoga, base jumping, triathlons, tennis, golfing on a full 18 hold golf course, scuba diving. ""Bring your scuba equipment too, because you can even explore the fully detailed ocean floor along the Los Santos Coastline"

GTA V is set to contain more vehicles than any previous entry in the series with BMX bike, mountain bikes, road bikes, dirt bikes, trucks, helicopters, planes, ATVs and Jet Skis all confirmed.

On the subject of driving Dan Houser said "The cars hold to the ground a bit better. we thought they were big and boat-like in GTA IV, and we feel like it has really leaped forward because we're able to run a little more physics on them. It feels more like a racing game. There are not a lot of high-level racing games out there at the moment, and that itch is going to be scratched by this game in a way maybe it hasn't been in previous GTA games"

Everyone's favourite guns and ammunition store is back! Ammu-Nation!

A lot more things to buy this time round. Houser addresses the valid criticism of GTA IV's inability to do much with the large amount of money players had at the end of the fourth game. Vibrant and fun economy - not property, but other things.

Dynamic missions as featured in RDR. Missions that intertwine with all three characters. Because the expansive frontier in Red Dead Redemption was so wide open, Rockstar Games devised a dynamic mission system that would present players with scenarios they could either ignore or engage rather than making them wander aimlessly between missions.
Less celebrities contributing to the voice acting.

New rendering, light and shader advances in the RAGE engine that blows Grand Theft Auto IV's away. Houser mentioned "We used to only render 1.5km at most in GTA IV, now we render the most distant mountains at the other end of the world many, many miles away."

One of Rockstar's playtester poured a trail of gas away from a vehicle and drops a zippo lighter on it, the flame travels back and causes a huge explosion.

And finally, the musical score seems to react to the action. Rockstar is also taking cinematic cues learned from Max Payne 3 and utilising them within GTA V's cutscenes and gameplay.

Here's five more pictures of what's set to be the biggest game of 2013:

Sounds fantastic. It seems like Rockstar has spent time actually listening to what gamers want to see from games now, a diverse living world that reacts and lives around you offering loads of scope for things to do and different things to be constantly happening. Can't wait to hear more, really I can't.

The three character things sounds the most interesting to me, would be nice if you could get a couple of friends to play the other characters as co-op for the whole game.
Or have it as an online drop-in/drop-out feature where you play one main character, 2 other people play as the other characters, going about their own missions, casuing havoc etc, then, when a heist needs all 3 characters, you all meet up and start that mission. Would be very cool, dynamic and something totally new. I am really very excited for this game. Open world games are probably my favourite genre and what Rockstar seem to be doing is taking the best of all other open world games and combining them whislt bringing in fresh and new ideas too.

Read this last night, sounds very interesting.
I really wish we could easily get hold of GameInformer in the UK. I love the way they do massive cover game editions.

GTA V will be awesome, everyone knows that but I hope there are more side diversions like the older games. I liked GTA 4 but it was a little too serious.

I can't bloody wait for this too come out! It's a shame they have postponed it's release till September although it comes out 5 days before my Birthday!! :D This new character change option sounds really good, I did enjoy GTA with just the 1 character but with 3 characters with completely different styles!? I can't bloody wait! Scuba diving sounds soo fun along with being able to play Tennis and Golf. this will be the only game that will keep me on Xbox 360 even when the next gen consoles come out. (Unless you can play and move Xbox 360 game saves onto Xbox 720)
