Bioware working on a completely new Mass Effect game

Casey Hudson, executive producer on the Mass Effect series, has announced that BioWare is working on a brand new game in the series.

Speaking via his twitter account, Hudson revealed, "We're in early stages of designing a completely new Mass Effect game. What would you want to see in it?"

He's certainly had plenty of responses so far, although he's unlikely to give much away. What would you like to see in the new Mass Effect game?

A good storyline. One of my biggest problems with ME3 was how anti-climatic the ending was. It just felt like horrible storytelling, which I assume was largely down to Drew Karpyshyn's exit as Lead Writer and somewhat down to rushed development near release as well. I just hope after that huge ending debacle they focus on where they are going with the story and get their priorities right, and for God's sake make sure the ending is more in line with ME1 and ME2, players wants an explosive finale not a damp squib.

Wouldn't mind an MMO, and make the space flight hands on, so we can just cruise around space if we want.

I think there has been talk of a ME MMO floating around, but I think it's more of a fan wish than an actual rumour. It would make sense and would work in the ME universe as it is so diverse.

Nice to see this confirmed. The original ME3 ending was really obviously done to set up a sequel series (even if it was very poor as a game ending). it was a really excellent series and with how well both single and multi player worked in ME3 i'm already looking forward to whatever comes next

I think a story that ties in with the origional mass effect would be awesome! Maybe we can create a totally new custom character too. I for one would like to play as a krogan for once. And as GLORIA said a few space battles (Star Wars:Battlefront II anyone?) and an online like fable maybe.

sounds good to me loved the 1st and 2nd but the third was not so good, please leave online off it as i feel it was ruined by doing this as i feel they spent less time on sp just so they can cater like the rest of the gaming industry,M.E is no way made for online its made for the storyline alone which made M.E 1 and 2 a great game

Too many games get tacked on crappy online modes to cater for the online crowd, like Bioshock 2 and Dead Space 2.

It will be interesting to see what they do now, since a lot of the main Bioware team have quit this year. It will probably end up being a typical average EA run of the mill game, than an awesome Bioware game. Expectations of quality for the next ME game (or anything from "Bioware") is now low. As for there being a ME MMO, it was said before SWTOR was released that they would consider doing another MMO, if SWTOR was a success, but as it has not been, then chances of a ME MMO are now extremely low

I still need to get round to playing all of the Mass Effect games, may look into getting the trilogy box thing that has been announced. Would love to see a MMO released on the Xbox though.

I hope Bioware get around to doing something different someday. Sequels are great and all but where have all the original games gone?

Interestingly there was a report elsewhere about a smaller company actually dropping the Bioware name. Guess it taints it. Personally I would be interested in seeing a new IP from them. How about a present day RPG? No need to put cars etc in, just wandering around and fighting monster/random stuff. Earthbound/Mother managed it 20 years ago and it's still regarded as one of the best in it's genre.

Needs a brand new story arc, but it needs to be done in such a way that it help re-build and explain more about the previous story. Hearing snippets of information about how Shepard and the team went on from where they left off would at least give us some more closure. That extended ending was hardly even worth viewing, but some all new information would be good. They should do it like Deus Ex 2 did, have a new story but link in the previous characters in the script.

The Mass Effect series is such a good scifi rpg series that more can only be a good thing. Especially as there are no good Battlestar Galactica games out there !

This is nice news to hear. I guess it will continue the story after Mass Effect 3, taking the final choice into consideration. If this happens it will be very cool. It will be cool if the story in Mass Effect 4 will be a little bit different than the first three (going on planets, recruiting companions, gathering resources, defeating the bad guys). I mean, I enjoyed the games. All of them. But I want to see something different. Darker story, choices that really have impact on the storyline, dynamic endings. Also I would like a deeper character story. As a player, I want to feel that I know the character I am playing with. Also, space battles would be very cool. I think that this is a cool idea: RPG + action sequences like Mass Effect Trilogy Galactic map and progress like Star Wars Empires at War (similarly) And also I would like them to drop the paragon/renegade hints. They should use a system similar to Dragon Age I.

Hmm..a new Mass Effect game? Aren't they all essentially the same design but with a progressive storyline? I'd like to give them a go (in order). If they want to play around with the format, don't try and cash-in using the 'Mass Effect' name - that's just a marketing ploy! ;)
