Wii U sells out in US, but it won't be for long

##@image@##

Wii U sales have led to stock shortages in the US, however Nintendo has urged people not to panic, as stocks will be replenished before Black Friday and once again before Xmas.

Speaking in an interview with CNBC, Fils-Aime revealed "There will be [more units] available - not only for Christmas. We'll have more available on Black Friday in retail locations."

This comes are Venturebeat [via VG247] published a report stating most US retailers were out of Wii U stock.

Sounds like there isn't any need for Americans to hit ebay quite yet then.

The Christmas numbers will be interesting. The craziness of two Christmases in a row where you couldn't buy a Wii for love or money is something I'm sure Ninty are hoping to reproduce with the WiiU. Grabbing my popcorn and watching intently

But what are the actual sales figures for the Wii U, and comparisons to previous launches?

I'd imagine they'd be pretty good if it's sold out completely. It's usually a good indication of high sales figures.

It'll probably be the same here, glad I ordered mine as soon as was possible.

Both ourselves and US is getting it before Japan. Which surprises me even more. But Japan get Monster Hunter for launch I think

I wonder if the multitude of reports about the numerous problems with the Wii U and it's bafflingly dumb design decisions (Accounts locked to one console with no way to restore?!?) will affect EU sales. I've seen a lot of people cancelling their preorders based off of some of the reports from America.

doubt it. Most of the people who actually wanted it will know that this isn't something that is much of a problem. Nintendo have something built in so you can transfer from 3DS to 3DS if need-be. No doubt they'll have something in place for this. If the console breaks (it happens. Although I've yet to actually have a broken Nintendo console at all since the Nes. Unlike my PS and X-Boxes) no doubt you'll be able to send it in and they should be able to get everything out. If not. External HDs. You can probably have everything backed up onto that. What was I saying? Oh yeah. Likely the people who rushed out and cancelled theirs after hearing a few minor things didn't even want one in the first place.

Sounds like another one of kevins little flights of fancy, probably one of his mates said he might get one and has changed his mind.

the more i keep seeing this the more i want one,but cash being tight this year i prob have to wait till it drops in price,i hope crimbo helps sales a lot but ive not seen many adverts on tv for it which i find kinda odd i prob see one a day and it was the one with zombies game, which i feel it wont help sales for kids as its promoting it more to adults.

To be fair, the ads for it seem to be ramping up a lot more over the last few weeks. I've seen quite a few different ones and I watch very little TV at all really.

No doubt some of the more expensive places will have them still in stock. (HMV, Game.) but that's nearly always the case. What I am worried about however is that we were told that UK stocks depend on how much the American stocks are. If it's selling out in America there could be less stock sent here. Thus causing panic buys in the run up for Christmas.

It does look good but if it is like the wii mine sits on the side gathering dust now as the kids prefer the kinect and it never appealed to me for adult gaming as the graphics weren't there compared to the other consoles.

I can agree. Mine doesn't get quite so much use compared to the PS3. However looking back I've gotten more joy out of the titles on the Wii (Xenoblade, Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, Galaxies, DKC, Epic Mickey, Last Story, Brawl, Metroid Prime Trilogy etc.) than I've gotten out of most of my PS3 games together.

Yep, the Wii had some of the best games of the last console generation, but was instantly dismissed by so many shallow people because it wasn't HD, or looked 'kiddy'.

Graphically, according to early game reviews; games like Batman: Arkham City and Darksiders II are so similar to the other platforms, reviewers have dismissed any comparisons completely and focused on Wii U-specific gameplay. That has to be very good news for those obsessed with HD and the like.

Product sellouts are a well-conceived plan; understock demand and you get the 'sellout' tag against the product. Makes for good marketing. Cynic alert!
