Nintendo needs consumers to buy one game for Wii U to turn a profit

Nintendo has revealed that it'll make money on the Wii U as soon as a consumer buys one piece of software.

Speaking in an interview with Mercury News, Nintendo America Boss Reggie Fils-Aime told the site,?"As soon as we get the consumer to buy one piece of software, then that entire transaction becomes profit positive."

Nintendo usually prices its consoles to make a profit, but this is not the case with Wii U. On the bright side, given that profit will return should users buy just one game then it seems likely that the company will make money from the off, after all who buys a console and doesn't order a game along with it?

"In the end, the business model is still to drive the install base of hardware," Fils-Aime concluded. "Then to drive a strong tie ratio with all of the other software and experiences for the consumer. And if we're able to do that, then we will create significant profit for the company."

Have you ordered a Wii U? If so, which games have you ordered along with it?

Getting Nintendoland in the premium bundle - might also get ZombiU at some point. Aliens: Colonial Marines looks interesting; especially if the motion tracker is incorporated well in the game. I think most people will purchase more than one title within the next six months.

I think the pad is going to act as the motion tracker in the game, should be sweet.

I'll be getting mario with mine when i get it. Ill also be getting rayman and pikmin on day 1 of their launch. A bit strange for nintendo to say this though. Who is gona buy a big new console and not get games for it?

Yeah, it is a bit of a strange one. Very good that they can turn a profit so early though.

i dont know whether i will bother as wii u seems too gimmicky i may and hope to be proven wrong but it seems too high for me for something not confident that will succeed. the ds 3d after all was a bit of a flop initially and still is now

You mean the 3DS? Its done better than the Vita at least, personally I have enough confidence in Nintendo to buy a Wii U at launch as despite all the mixed reviews and reports it still looks like an excellent piece of hardware with a decent set of launch titles to boot.
