Reggie: Wii U "much more graphically intensive" than other consoles

Nintendo of America boss Reggis Fils-Aime has said that he believes graphics for third party titles on Wii U are superior to those on other consoles.

Speaking in an interview with CNN, Fils-Aime defended the Wii U's specs, claiming they offer a lot more power than most people seem to think.

"The specs are quite different than the competitive systems; much more graphically intensive," he said.

"If you do a side-by-side comparison you would see that third-party games like Call of Duty look dramatically better on our system."

This information seems to be in conflict to reports coming out of the US following, with journalists and consumers claiming there is not much difference. Perhaps over time we will start to see what sets the Wii U apart?

Check out the interview in full below.

They probably are a bit better, but it's early days for the Wii U, developers are just scratching the surface of it's potential.

will be interesting to see nintendo have sort of dropped the gimmicky market of the original wii somewhat but are innovating with the mini screen will be interesting to see what else moves over. resi 6?

Haven't seen much difference personally. Even if the graphics are better, the majority of third party titles actually run worse on the Wii U. Hope that changes.

I imagine they'd be similar graphics to the 360 and ps3, maybe slightly better, but I think Nintendo are more about innovation so don't need fantastic graphics sometimes.

I have also heard that third party games run worse.

The wii u graphics may look better...for now, but when the new Xbox or ps is released what will people think about the wii u then? Nintendo have always relied on the gimmicky market and that's what makes them different.

Seen COD: Black ops II comparison tests (online, not with own eyes), and apart from slightly different colour palettes, both are what gamers expect the games to be and run like. As far as continually looking to another gen for Sony and Microsoft, there will come a time when we will not be able to take advantage of the tech on offer; some of the guff coming from Sony about another graphical level will need monitors which gamers won't be able to afford. We're at a level now where there aren't any real surprises, I don't think many gamers realise we're plateauing..

Spot on, mate. I'm not sure this whole graphical battle even matters, really. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 don't have much between them, on paper or in practice (believe me, I've done a lot of research on the matter... was the thesis of my dissertation at Uni). So fair play to Reggie but in the grand scheme of things, it seems like an empty victory.

I've been saying that for a while, not that anybody listens.

I've been playing from the first days of dots-on-screen 'tennis' games to head-monging 'realism' of Black Ops II; enough to traumatise the unwary. Good-to-great games are all we want, pixel-counts and frame-rates aren't why we put a game on - we want to be entertained (in whatever form that comes in).

"some of the guff coming from Sony about another graphical level will need monitors which gamers won't be able to afford." Do you have a source for this? Because I don't believe Sony have ever made such a claim. Regardless, if you think visuals in games have hit a wall then you clearly haven't been keeping up with some of the latest advances on PC. Recent graphics mods for games like GTA4 and Skyrim have really made those games look incredible... and the tech rumoured to be used in new MS/Sony consoles is on that level.

What a load of crap. Most multiplatform games on Wii U actually look and/or perform WORSE than PS3/360 alternatives, with the best ports on the console being "on par at best" so far. The Wii U has shown nothing to suggest it is any more impressive a console than what is already available cheaper.

Don't rise to the bait - of course some big shot in Nintendo would have to make some sweeping statements about their console :P a load of bull! :P

It's galling as this isn't even the first time Fils-Aimes has straight up lied with regard to Wii U on camera. His claim that the Wii U version of Arkham City was an entirely new game on Wii U has become infamous.

It will be a complete boot in the face come Autumn 2013 when we are all sitting with shiny new Xbox's and Playstations - WiiU, with their "graphically more intensive" console will be sitting with egg on their faces. Muahahahaha :P
