Nintendo Wii U online functions go online ahead of tomorrow's launch

Nintendo has announced that their new home console, Wii U's online functions have launched ahead of the European launch of the high definition console tomorrow.

After connecting Wii U to the Internet and running an update, Wii U owners will be able to access the Miiverse, Wii U Chat, an Internet Browser, as well as Nintendo eShop, which offers a variety of exclusive games to download from Nintendo and other publishers such as New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo Land, ZombiU, FIFA 13 and more, demos of games and special offers on day one, Nintendo eShop is the digital storefront for Wii U.

YouTube, UPLAY and Netflix will also available to download through Nintendo eShop on Wii U tomorrow.

On the launch day for Wii U the following download-exclusive games will be available from Nintendo eShop. To celebrate their releases, some games are even at a special launch price for a limited time only, here's just a few of what's available:

Trine 2 - 10.99 pounds - You are one against millions. Stop the deadly Nanostray virus from spreading in the nano cosmos as you traverse a breathtaking microscopic world. Nano Assault Neo is an all-new, unique twin-stick style shoot 'em up game for Wii U.

Neko Entertainment's Puddle - 7.19 pounds -Dive into award winning Puddle with 49 levels specially re-mastered for Wii U. Puddle is a physics game unlike any other where you guide a puddle of fluid by tilting the Wii U GamePad to the left or right. Play carefully taking friction, gravity and temperature into account, and by using the unique properties of each type of fluid (water, oil, nitroglycerin, molten lava...) in a range of original environments.

Nano Assault Neo - 8.99 pounds -You are one against millions. Stop the deadly Nanostray virus from spreading in the nano cosmos as you traverse a breathtaking microscopic world. Nano Assault Neo is an all-new, unique twin-stick style shoot 'em up game for Wii U.

So who's getting a Wii U tomorrow? Joe and I got ours today, so if you're on the fence about any of the release titles keep an eye for reviews of some of them over the next week.

It'll be interesting to see how this compares to XBL and the PSN in a few years time.

Got mine yesterday from shopto. Spent ages setting it up haha. (seriously people. Set aside about 4 hours for the update and Nintendoland's update.) but was worth it.. My only complaint thus far is that I've got about £30 on my 3DS e-shop but seems to be no way to transfer funds from that to the Wii U.

You can have names now, I thought it was going to be friends codes again, that's pretty cool.

wii u is for kids too expensive for what you get
Robichoico's avatar
Really? IIRC the 360 was about £400 at launch and the PS3 was £600 at launch. I don't think the Wii U is overpriced at all.

Wii U is for kids, well I suppose it has all the games that are popular with kids these days, FIFA, CoD and AC.

Trine 2 description is wrong . Got my wii u yesterday loving it so far but when it came my box was ripped open at the side so I phoned shoptonet and told me it left them in mint condition and had to phone TNT. But no joy there :( this is the 1st time I have had this happen to me.

I had a similar problem with my 3DS XL. Looked like a spear had been used to attack the box. Fortunately the 3DS XL box and everything was fine.

Robichoico my when through to the wii u box nasty hole at the side :(

That sucks. I noticed on both the Wii U and 3DS XL boxes there was nothing in to help pad the box from product in case something happened. I import a lot of figures from Japan and I think I go through more trees than the rest of my family because of the amount of paper padding inside. Hope the Wii U itself is fine.

I'm a little skeptical of the WiiU, but I wont knock something until I've tried it. Now I just need to find a friend that has actually brought one, so that I can have a go.
