Sony announces Black Friday sales for US

Sony has revealed that it sold 525,000 PlayStation 3s, and 160,000 PlayStation Vitas over Black Friday week in the US.

According to Sony that's a growth of 9 percent over last year, while PlayStation Plus subscriptions are also up 259 percent over last year.

"We're very pleased with the Black Friday sales results, especially the incredible reception for the PS3 and PS Vita bundles, said Jack Tretton, SCEA. "The demand was very strong which quickly depleted our inventory across retailers nationwide.

"The PlayStation brand generated significant revenue and year-over-year growth at retail because of our focus on what gamers love most in combining amazing hardware with great games and digital entertainment."

Microsoft announced that it sold 750,000 Xbox 360's over the same period in the US, while Nintendo sold 400,000 Wii U units, 300,000 Wiis and 250,000 3DS consoles.

Not bad for consoles which are very old and in desperate need of replacing.

I got given a 30 day PS+ trial the other day, so I might activate it to take advantage of any PS+ discounts :)

Shows a healthy interest in current-gen gaming; think sometimes, we should allow ourselves to enjoy it, rather than keep looking ahead at PS4's and Xbox 720's all the time! ;)

I am very happy with this current gen. Look at some of the games such as God of War, Gran Turismo and Dead Space and the quality is evident. Notice this is just scratching the surface. I hear Far Cry 3, Hitman and Assassins Creed 3 are even better so there is more to offer. Do we need the PS4 yet? Probably not but whoever draws first blood of the big two will almost Definately win
