Activision: Guitar Hero still alive

Activision’s Dan Winters has told GI.biz the Guitar Hero franchise is “on hiatus,” rather than having being cancelled completely.

Although many had thought that Activision had wiped its hands of the series after many years of success, Winters revealed the game could still see a return, should the publisher think it could succeed.

“Actually, just to clarify, we’re just putting Guitar Hero on hiatus, we’re not ending it,” Winters explained. “We’re releasing products out of the vault – we’ll continue to sustain the channel, the brand won’t go away. We’re just not making a new one for next year, that’s all.”

Guitar Hero was actually a very successful franchise for Activision, with the series bringing the publisher a lot of profit, however the genre seemed to be getting stale and sales were going down, not just for Guitar Hero but for similar games such as Rock Band, hence the reason for giving the game a break for a while.
