Looking at how low the Wii U games have gotten really shows how bad this country is getting for games. And looking at the top 10. Save for 3 games it makes me wanna be sick.
PrometheusFan's avatar
Says more about how badly the Wii U is doing if anything. Some very high numbers posted for the likes of COD and Halo this week. The UK market isn't in as sorry a state as it was earlier this year anymore.
PrometheusFan 4 years ago
Robichoico's avatar
Or people just aren't willing to try something new and are happy with more COD, More Halo, More Just Dance and the like. Paper Mario only got 40. Shame on you UK. SHAME.
Robichoico 4 years ago
PrometheusFan's avatar
If people weren't willing to "try anything new" then a brand new IP like Dishonored wouldn't have been one of the bigger success stories of the past few months.
PrometheusFan 4 years ago
Dead's avatar
Dishonored may be a new IP, but it does nothing new in the way of gameplay.

Neither does Paper Mario 3DS. In fact from what I hear, it actually does LESS in gameplay terms than it's predecessors :/

From what you....hear? How about from what you played? It does things a bit more differently than past Paper Mario titles and the sticker thing is a lot more unique. But really. Looking at the list I see nothing there that does anything truely unique. Maybe Book of Spells.....
Robichoico 4 years ago
PrometheusFan's avatar
Well, did I hear wrong that the RPG elements have been all but removed and combat is essentially pointless in the game now? The "sticker" based gameplay is hardly unique either seeing as Contact on the original DS had more or less the exact same mechanic.
PrometheusFan 4 years ago
Robichoico's avatar
There isn't as many RPG elements as the first or second games. Its like other RPGs where you can choose how to develop. And Combat is as pointless as in other Mario games....I guess? I don't really understand that. Combat is in and you need to do it to advance. But I guess if they did Paper Mario similar to the other ones people like you would complain that they've rehashed the same game again.
Robichoico 4 years ago
PrometheusFan's avatar
That's quite a presumption... I would be fine with Nintendo "rehashing" what they did with PM Thousand Year Door on Gamecube as I loved that game. And the problem with having RPG style combat in a game that has removed RPG elements is that... well... where's the reward? The character building? The whole point of most combat in these sorts of games? It sounds far too dumbed down to me, which is why I haven't bought the game.

Did I read that right, kevin loved a Nintendo game?
No, that can't be right, kevin hates Nintendo.

Very tempted for Hitman and WWE 13, seeing that they are still floating about the top ten is a good sign to me. Halo 4 is still doing awesome considering that is is a single platform game too, not surprising the COD and Fifa are in the top 3 either.

Wow... that's pretty shocking. Wii U sees the least successful console launch in UK history last week and somehow it's doing even worse in week 2, when the already hollow excuse of stock shortages is unquestionably no longer a factor. The Japanese launch of this console has become a true 'make or break' situation for Nintendo. They'd best pray that overpriced 3DS Monster Hunter port works some miracles for them.
Robichoico's avatar
yet sales worldwide the Wii U has the third most sucessful home console launch in history. After PS2 and Wii. Damn Nintendo. Stop failing. You coulda been number 1

Considering the PS3 has been outselling the Wii U everywhere the past couple of weeks, I seriously doubt that Gloria. And what am I wrong about exactly? Also, Robichoico, that link says nothing about the Wii U, but looking at numbers for the launches it does list, the Wii U is nowhere near being the third most successful launch of all time. In fact it looks like the Dreamcast may even have had a better launch.
PrometheusFan 4 years ago
Robichoico's avatar
Its the ones for the other consoles. Wii U is easy to find. I was mistaken. It was actually 4th going from that list. Still sold more than the 360 and PS3 did at launch. Look how they turned out. NINTENDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED
Robichoico 4 years ago
Robichoico's avatar
Actually from what I gather Sony as a company are overall more in a risky situation than Nintendo are. There was a report a few months back saying that they're only doing really well in the console area. And considering how well the PSV is doing. Nintendo probably could survive the Wii U being a flop if the 3DS continues the way it is. If the PS4 is in the same position as the Wii U is. And the continuing way the Vita is going then Sony are gonna be in a really bad position.
Robichoico 4 years ago
PrometheusFan's avatar
The 360 did actually have severe stock shortages at launch though... and the PS3 didn't launch in it's largest sales market (Europe) until six months after everywhere else. Comparing to two such handicapped launches isn't really saying a lot. And it doesn't change the fact that the Wii U has had the worst console launch in UK history, when historically this has been a very lucrative market for Nintendo hardware. That is a big deal.
PrometheusFan 4 years ago
PrometheusFan's avatar
Actually the only area of their business Sony are actually doing badly is in the TV division, which is apparently accounting for a huge chunk of their losses. They're still seeing success in most departments, with the SCE division being the most successful right now. All beside the point though to be honest. Also, considering the 3DS currently isn't anywhere near as popular outside Japan as the DS was/is, I think you're badly overestimating Nintendo's ability to withstand another disastrous console launch.

Oh boy... just saw the freshly released Japanese launch sales figures for the Wii U and it's the exact same story as the UK launch: Not even close to a sell out and once again sold less than the Vita did at launch. Things are looking very bad for Nintendo right now.

Rubbish.

Um... is that meant to disprove what I was saying or something? :/ For reference: Top six Japanese launch figures for consoles: PS2: 630,552, GBA: 611,504, NDS: 441,485, Wii: 371,936, 3DS: 371,326, PSV: 321,407. Puts the Wii U in seventh place, well behind the Vita as I stated.

Hey Kevin. How did the PS3 do? And Nintendo are struggling in Japan against the Vita. Which is why the 3DS is selling AT LEAST twice as many units per week over it. Funny how you didn't notice that
Robichoico 4 years ago
PrometheusFan's avatar
I did notice that, it is just completely beside the point with regard to the Wii U. And the PS3 didn't do great at launch in Japan, only managing something like 90k... but again, beside the point completely. I take it from the descent into constant deflection we're done here then?

This is the first launch Nintendo has had with so many regions so close. Thier is a shortage of Wii U console just like their were with Xbox 360. Sony was fine they delayed the European release by 5 month which meant they could stock pile the console so they could get great first week sales. COme the 2nd week Ps3 sales dropped to very low. -- People expect Nintendo Wii U games to out sell a console that has had over 70 million sales? Get a grip. -- Remebers when the PS3 was the lowest selling console till the brought the slim out and dropped the price. -- People give the Wii u a chance it is a great machine just like the Ps3 and Xbox and at least Nintendo and MS have a decent DRM set up and a easy access store, unlike Sony, Still enoy my Ps3 and Vita but unless they sought out the DRM rubbish I won't be buying the Ps4.
PrometheusFan's avatar
Actually there is no shortage of Wii U consoles anywhere, which is a primary reason why the poor sales figures have been taking most people by surprise.

Depends on where you go Kevin. I just got back from town and Game, HMV, Asda and Grainger there are all sold out. And said they aren't expecting anymore before Christmas now.
Robichoico 4 years ago
Dead's avatar
Yep, a pretty successful launch I'd say, especially considering the current economic climate. The thing about quoting loads of figures is that they are meaningless unless they are all in the same context, a February launch is not the same as a Christmas launch economically speaking, and that's without the ever worsening recession, so the slim margin of Vita launch sales over the Wii U is absolutely meaningless. :)

PrometheusFan's avatar
November/December are the busiest months of the year for sales in the gaming industry. So a successor to last generation's highest selling hardware launching at this time of year and failing to match sales of a handheld no one ever gave a damn about (apparently) that launched in the Spring is actually pretty far from meaningless, no matter how slim the margin. The fact that this exact scenario also happened in Japan, Nintendo's biggest market by a very very long way, is a very big deal. Next week should be interesting...

Actually no, nothing could be that pathetic.

kevin has problems grasping the concept that online retailers only need one or two units to list an item as in stock, he thinks it means they have loads of them.
