Microsoft countdown to E3

Microsoft's Major Nelson has posted up a countdown timer to E3 2013 accompanied by the comment "And it's on."

As you'd expect, any glimpse of enthusiasm from Microsoft is being seen as a nod to the reveal of the next Xbox, so everyone everywhere has already jumped on that bandwagon.

Microsoft is widely expected to reveal its next console at E3, with many expecting it to release before the year's end.

We expect that the next PlayStation will also be revealed at E3, although we may have to wait a little longer, possibly Q1 2014, before we see Sony's machine arrive on our shores.

E3 is still five months away.

A bit premature, hopefully they are going to be giving us something more than slightly upgraded graphics and next generation kinect as standard, but that's probably all it will be. It's the games that matter though, I just hope they've got more than a new Halo, Forza and Gears of War in production, I'm bored with them now.

Yeah, i know what you mean. It's all about the games. If the likes of GTA V can look that good on our current machines and is still yet to be released, then the games on the next gen consoles have to be WAY above that standard to warrant buying a PS4/xbox720. Otherwise whats the point?

They will probs make a big deal out of this Bungie "Destiny" project. Thats what i can see it being, Hopefully an Xbox handheld though.

I thought Destiny was going to be multiplatform, and that MS and Bungue had split ties.

I wouldn't expect a handheld from MS either, apart from a MS phone perhaps.

O right i was unaware it was multiplatform. Hopefully it's not a phone because i have a windows phone already that allows me to play xbox live games on my phone, but they are all sub-standard phone games.

A five month countdown announcement? That's a bit of a cheap attention hype grab, but I guess there's not much else to do until there's something tangible to actually hype first. Fully expect a reveal well before E3.

Why are Microsoft counting down to the reveal of a new Mario game? (and if the rumours are true new Zelda) As you can imagine I'm not really hyped for a new 360 console. Sony has Japan support and half decent exclusives so will likely go for that. Microsoft will likely have Kinect 2 as standard and Halo 5, Gears of War 5, Forza 2014 coming for it.

This will be the longest wait in a while, I'm really looking forward to what the next generation has in store for us. This may force Sony's hand, too.

Have always loved E3, One of the most exciting times of the year for the games industry.. Hoping for a new viva pinata this year although that seems unlikely.

Oh no, Microsoft. E3 has pretty disappointing for years. Don't try to build up peoples' anticipation and expectations. ...
