Tomb Raider multiplayer game modes revealed

We reported yesterday that it was Eidos Montreal behind the development of multiplayer in Square's upcoming Tomb Raider game and today we can reveal more on this section of the title.

A feature in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine reveals that the game will include a trio of multiplayer modes, including Team Deathmatch mode and two non standard modes known as "Rescue" and "Cry for Help."

Rescue mode sees you play as either a survivor or a scavenger. Survivors collect medpacks and delivering them to on-map locations, while scavengers aim for a high kill count. In this mode players will be able to revive their comrades thanks to the addition of a bleed out time. The exact details of Cry for Help mode aren't clear, although Eurogamer reports that "the emphasis is on discovery and collection as opposed to combat."

The multiplayer modes provide an XP system, as well as a decent sized roster of characters to choose from.

Tomb Raider is released on March 5 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Sounds interesting with the discovery mode... not sure how it will work will it be random placement? If so great! If not it will just be a bit silly

So this is what's going to "change the way you play Tomb Raider forever", is it? Haha... so much for the idea of it being a Wii U version :D

Sounds like a waste of time. I'm sure other people will get kicks out of it but it's not why I'm buying Tomb Raider.

I don't think this game needs Multiplayer, But i'm sure some people will play it. I don't suppose shopto plan to price match Amazon on tomb raider?
Robichoico's avatar
Good question. I cancelled my Shopto version since Amazon is doing the ultra version with Lara figure for like £10 cheaper (Amiami is doing her seperate but it's like £30 without postage to UK)

why o why are they doing this, they better not of ruined the sp campaign i wont play the mp as it wont feel right tdm on tomb raider seriously this anit gonna go down well.

They do it because people ask for it, there's a mass of idiots out there that think every game should have an online multiplayer and won't shut up about it. Even after all the crappy tacked on multiplayer modes we've seen tacked on to solely single player games they still go on about it and try and make out a game is somehow lacking if it doesn't have online.

Yeh i agree with this, A great quality single player game simply is not enough anymore, Sub standard MP mode is high in demand it seems!

Why multiplayer? put more effort into making it longer, i remember reading something saying gameplay would last for about 12 hours...
Dead's avatar
12 hours is pretty long for a single player game these days when some clock in at around 4 hours.

Just had a look at Kane & Lynch 2 cos i have never played it and most comments being negitive are about the length for the game, 4 hours is very shameful. It took me longer to get past the archer bit in anor londo in dark souls lol.

It's not just short, K&L2 is pretty crappy too, subjecting anyone to more than 4 hours of it would have just been cruel. Personally I got bored half way through.

COD for the Vita comes out at a whopping hour. If you're lucky. I got more time out of Rugrats the game.

Hey don't talk bad about Rugrats. That game was a good source of entertainment during my childhood (The PS1 duo)

Was this the rugrats game with the huge dinosaur at the end and the golf level was the second to last one? if so i loved that game :D

They add multiplayer to stop people selling their games on when they have finished them. Plus they can add an 'online code' as well which devalues it. Can't really blame them. Tomb Raider is looking more and more like Uncharted now, which for me is a bad thing.

i do hope its going to be long 12 hours,i supose allso what diffculty you put it on counts to the length it takes to do the game fully with all side quests and items found,i just finished farcry 3 just over 40 hours to complete it all fully now thats a game i call pure brilliant for length :)

Tomb Raider has always been a single player game till this point. Multiplayer takes up more room on the disk and takes away from resources that could have been done? to make the single-player better. That being said Eidos Montreal are a good team so hopefully everything will turn out alright.

The thing is with Multiplayer if it works its great. However theres a few games which have tried this and the MP section has fallen flat on its ass (Dead Space 2 was one great game but could be targetted with this). Multiplayer should not ever compromise the quality of the single player though
